I cannot BELIEVE how that spammer ruthlessly impersonated many people.
Including yours truly. *fumes* I hate SPAM.

I am not amused either. Can anybody expose the wise guy pulling off this attack?

If you want to know how many, take a look in news.admin.net-abuse.usenet.
Practically all the posts mentioning "HipCrime", "sendsys" or supersedes"
refer to the same thing.

Almost makes you want to start cryptographically signing your
messages so that impersonation becomes impossible.

The paths suggest he is using news.softandco.fr.
http://www.softandco.fr/freeweb/page2.html says

It's very obvious that this is an impersonation since he impersonated
EVERYBODY. Though he used the name of Mr. Scott a couple of times, even I
cannot believe he pulled off crap like this

why is it everyone seems to think this makes impersonation impossible...
the imposters can sign his messages too, and you'd have to go to the
trouble of checking the signature to make sure of the identity...

how much traffic are you willing to check? the spammer made it pretty
obvious he wasn't who he was claiming to be, checking signed messages
wouldn't make it any more clear who is and who isn't the person they
claim to be...

signatures can make *successful* impersonations impossible, but they don't
stop crappy impersonations...

I was recently impersonated, not by the megaspammers, in a Unix
password thread on sci.crypt. As a result I am signing all my messages
so I can later prove when someone is impersonating me.

Since I've sworn to sign EVERYTHING I write (on sci.crypt, I don't think the
folks over at sci.med.vision know what PGP is), *any* message from a purported
STL137 *without* a signature should be assumed to be a forgery unless I say I
forgot to sign it, and sign that message.

Aw nuts - I think I *did* forget to sign that last message.

On the other hand, we couldn't prove that he wrote anything if
