****** This e-mail is for those with coastal and environmental interests in the
region between Nova Scotia and the eastern Caribbean.
Atlantic CoastWatch offers detailed news from throughout the northwest Atlantic
region as a free online service for coastal activists, advocates and local
decision-makers.
Given myriad developments and challenges affecting the health of our coast, and
the need to recirculate relevant information in an efficient and timely manner,
Atlantic CoastWatch, a Sustainable Development Institute project since 1997,
provides two free online news services:
- Atlantic CoastWatch, a widely recognized bimonthly newsletter which wraps up
the latest coastal issues, activities and local policies between Nova Scotia and
the eastern Caribbean.
Digested within each 8 page issue are terse summaries outlining the
people, places, actions and issues affecting the character of coastal and
regional development. Said one nationally prominent coastal advocate,
"If you only have time to read one newsletter, Atlantic CoastWatch is
it."
- Coastal News Nuggets, a news clipping service, updates on a weekly basis daily
headlines, stories and press releases, from our research for the same
northwestern Atlantic region. With a plethora of local and regional news
stories linked to sources detailing efforts and activities, a complete and
unique ongoing coastal profile is freely available.
Nuggets are drawn from local newspapers, press releases, NGO and
governmental reports. Usually on Wednesday or Thursday, between 200-300
headlines and links to sources and stories are posted which provide a
detailed swathe of environmental and coastal news. Coastal News Nuggets
are used in classrooms, town halls, for books and are what we generate
our newsletter from.
The Atlantic CoastWatch "agenda" is to report and consolidate the news of
others, whether that be the ongoing interplay between science and policy,
fisheries management, watershed or land-use planning, agriculture, smart growth,
pollution, global warming and their impacts.
Funding for Atlantic CoastWatch is independently solicited from charitable
individuals and foundations while the Sustainable Development Institute is a
501(c)3 registered non-for-profit. All services are free.
We hope you'll visit, perhaps learn, perhaps discover, or stay up-to-date and
enjoy.
