Every once in a while, the robo-moderator for talk.origins goes down,
and the newsgroup stalls--no new posts get posted. This latest
downtime started some time on the 18th and today is the 20th.

I've been told that sci.bio.evolution is also linked to the robo-
moderator, so that it too stalls at such a time. Indeed, the latest
posts in s.b.e that I could find are from Sep 18, 11:17am. There are
several since posts in s.b.p. go through a second moderation by a live
human.

The last time this happened, I recommended that sci.bio.paleontology
be used as a medium for announcements as to how the work on the robo-
moderator is progressing and estimates as to when it will be back into
action.

If this is done in a timely manner, it would save David Iain Greig the
trouble of people bombarding him with e-mail about this.

I recommended sci.bio.paleontology for this role because of all the
non-moderated newsgroups, it is the closest in subject matter to these
two groups. It also has the dubious distinction of having very little
traffic of late. In this case, that is an advantage, because this
thread is less likely to get buried deep under other threads in the
various tables of contents that various newsreaders provide.

Well, posts have started to come through in talk.origins again, so it
seems the problem has been fixed.
