That is a very pretty corn snake. No reason to fear it. It might
act tough, but it's not venomous.
The garage probably lots of nooks and crannies to hide out in.
And (if it's anything like my garage), the snake might have found
mice in there.
We have a large female corn snake as a pet. Had her from a
tiny hatchling. Only bit anyone once, when she was little, by
mistake. (I was lifing up her shelter and she apparently thought
the tip of my finger was food -- she was being fed pinky mice
at the time. Most definitely a feeding bite; she was determined
to hang on.)

As Pat said, that's a lovely corn snake. Harmless and will keep down
the pest population.
