Study covers only a 30 year period. Historically since the late 1800's
there have been 30 year cycles of global warming and slight cooling:

Snow is a pretty effective insulation from seriously cold temperatures. It will certainly be interesting to see what survived here in MN (we did have some cold episodes when there was little snow cover).
