The University of Oregon's Institute of Marine Biology is seeking
an instructor to participate in its spring session marine biology
program by organizing and teaching a course in Marine
Conservation Biology. The course meets all day Monday, and for
an hour on Friday. Maximum class size is 24 and averages 10 - 15
upper division undergraduate biology majors and 2 - 6 graduate
students. Approximately 20 undergraduate and graduate biology
majors will be in full time attendance at the Institute during the
spring session. The Institute, located on the coast in Charleston
Oregon, has dedicated teaching laboratories with running seawater.
There is easy access to a variety of marine and estuarine habitats
which facilitates field trips.
BI 457/557 MARINE BIOLOGY: MARINE CONSERVATION
BIOLOGY (4 quarter hour credits)
Course description: Conservation biology is a multidisciplinary
science that addresses the protection of biological diversity. This course
looks at the conservation of marine ecosystems and includes aspects of
ecology, taxonomy, population biology, and environmental studies.
Prerequisites: Upper division biology or environmental studies
major.
The course meets 8 - 5 Monday and 9.30 - 10.30 Friday.
Salary: $5,000.
Research facilities (fees waived) are available. If desired the
selected applicant could spend time at OIMB before or after the
course to conduct research.
Housing available on site. Cost: $325/month
Dates: March 30 - June 12, 1998
Qualification: Ph. D. preferred
