1996 SUMMER SESSION COURSES

The Oregon Institute of Marine Biology has offered a variety of
exciting courses in marine biology to undergraduate and graduate
students for the past seventy years. The 1996 courses listed below are
designed for upper division biology undergraduates, graduate students and
biology teachers.

EIGHT-WEEK SESSION June 22 - August 16, 1996

Invertebrate Zoology (8 credits) Instructor: Patrick Baker. Macalester
College, Minnesota.
Biology of Fishes (8 credits) Instructors: Chris Petersen and Helen Hess.
College of the Atlantic, Maine.
Marine Birds and Mammals (6 credits) Instructor: Jan Hodder. Oregon
Institute of Marine Biology.
Behavioral Ecology (6 credits) Instructor: Lisbeth Francis. Sustainable
Ecosystems Institute and Friday Harbor Laboratory, Washington.

WEEKEND WORKSHOPS (Each workshop 2 credits)

Biological Illustration June 22-23, 29-30 Instructor: Charles Stasek.
Sonoma State University, California.
Coastal Wetland Restoration July 6-7, 13-14 Instructor: Steve Rumrill and
Craig Cornu. South Slough National Estuarine Research
Reserve, Oregon.
Animal Locomotion July 27-28, August 3-4 Instructor: Tom Daniels. University
of Washington.

TWO WEEK SESSIONS (Each course 4 credits)

Investigating the Rocky Shore June 24-27, July 1-3,5 Instructor: Tom Niesen.
San Francisco State University.
Wetlands Biology July 8-11, 15-18 Instructor: Marshall Pregnall. Vassar
College, New York.

The Oregon Institute of Marine Biology is located in Charleston
Oregon at the mouth of Coos Bay, part of which is set aside as the
South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve. The lab is close
to rich rocky shores which are protected by the Oregon State Parks,
and has easy access to the sandy beaches and coastal sand dunes of
the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Classes meet all day
and maximum class size is 24 students.
