The origin of spiral arms

A little while back I announced on s.a.r. the explanation as to why
Newtonian gravity causes galaxies to form logarithmic spirals, and in
particular bisymmetric spirals. Readers may like to know that this
explanation has now been published in a peer reviewed journal.
