I read somewhere that Capella is the 6th brightest star (as seen from
earth.) But in trying to construct a list, I think I'm missing one.
Is my list incomplete or is Capella the 5th?
1 Sirius -1m5
2 Canopus -0m7
3 ??
4? Arcturus 0m0
5? Wega 0m1
6 Capella 0m2
7 Rigel 0m3
Thanks for any clues,
Jos
Alpha Centauri -0m3

Hi, Jos !!!
Try the sun in our solar system (m=-26.78)...
Michael
(0 Sun)
1 Sirius -1m5
2 Canopus -0m7
3 Toliman -0m1 a.k.a. alpha Centuri
4 Arcturus 0m0
5 Wega 0m1
6 Capella 0m2
7 Rigel 0m3
For Alpha-Cen, sometimes the magnitudes of its 2 main stars (0m3 + 1m7)
are given. That's why I first overlooked it!
Thanks,
Jos

The obvious one you're missing is "The Sun" which should be number 1 on your
list at magnitude -26.8.
