I suggest calling or e-mailing Celestron and asking them. While there is a
slight chance someone here had this done, you are much more likely to get a
quick and correct answer from Celestron.

Hi,
Last month someone posted about a cracked corrector of an 8" Celestron
Ultima 2000. I've looked it up with Google (sorry for the very long link):
http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&threadm=3E4B67D7
.BAA4B367%40mwoa.org&rnum=1&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dcelestron%2Bbroken%2Bcorrecto

B367%2540mwoa.org%26rnum%3D1
The bottom line was, a new corrector plate should work just fine. There's no
need to replace the entire optics. Consult Celestron for pricing...
Jeroen.
Last week I had a friend who called Celestron about this for an N11 and it
was 480 US I believe...
Thanks,
Dave

HOWEVER, I talked to a Celestron VP who's in a position to know just
what the procedures are and he said that the chances of a new corrector
working well with the existing primary and secondary are very small. He
said the last step in configuring the optics is to make changes to the
secondary that will correct for anything that's not right in the primary
and/or corrector (and the secondary). IOW, they test the entire system
and correct the secondary as need be to get the best results (pretty
much like the HST corrective optics). The bottom line is that we've
decided the telescope has to return to Celestron to ensure the best
outcome.
Even if just replacing the corrector plate would work the point is moot
anyway. There's no way to get one from them. I had one of their
best-connected dealers working on it and they just couldn't get one from
them. It's definitely not something they offer. Sending it back seems
the only way to get it done unless you can get a corrector from another
source.
I haven't checked on the cost from Celestron yet so I can't help you
with that.

Ouch!
