Virgo SKY/mount vs. TT mounts?

Are there any significant differences in quality and performance between the
Virgo SKY/mount and the various TT bino mounts? I see that the TT Euro mount's
price is substantially less than the SKY/mount ($125 vs.$175), so all things
being equal, it sounds like a better deal. Is there something about the
SKY/mount that justifies its higher price?? Thanks in advance for your
feedback.

I went with the TT, and I am VERY happy with it! Not sure why the Virgo
costs so much more, but in the dark, prettiness isn't worth squat, and the TT
has all the functionality you could want.

Cheers!

Gosh, I'm glad you asked that question.... since I *am* Virgo Astronomics.
We have manufactured the SKY/mount since January, '98. Prior to that time,
VA was the major distributor for T&T's various binocular mounts, including
the Bino-Mount.
We stopped selling their products when we wanted to improve the mount
products to "catalogue-quality" from the home-made appearance they did and
do have, and T&T declined to go in that direction.

I don't mean to imply that their products don't work - they do - or that
they're shoddy. I *do* believe that Virgo's new products are superior to
T&T's in appearance, workmanship and consistency, characteristics much
appreciated by astronomers.

The SKY/mount is produced on computerized lathes and milling machines for
product consistency, coated with a black, baked-on scratch-resistant finish
and contains no wooden parts. Other improvements include a 2-position
telescoping shaft for better leverage of the milled steel (not
cement-filled PVC tubing) counterweight. Each unit is identical, great
looking and costs slightly more than theirs.

What kind of binoculars do *you* own? Really good ones? More than likely
"pride-in-ownership" was a factor in your buying decision. And *that's* the
difference between Virgo Astronomics' and T&T's products.
