I wrote this application mostly to help organize my Messier Observation
and application for the Certificate.
Program Advantages:
1.The Rise and Set Report, sorts the objects on how many hours the object
is up when the sun isn't.
2.By clicking on a button either from the Object Edit Screen or the Rise
and Set Report, the user can see where the Object is using Sky Chart
(Cartes Du Ciel.) Thanks to Patrick Chevalley for his assistance in
getting this feature working.
3.Can generate a report listing found objects. This is the same exact
report I turned in to get my Messier Certificate. The data can also be
exported to a csv, which can be opened by most spread sheets including
OpenOffice Calc.
4.Messier can calculate the magnification of a telescope/eyepiece
combination.
5.Uses the MySQL Database. Is fairly easy to create custom databases for
the users amusement.
Program disadvantages:
1.It is only available in source code and therefore the user will have to
compile the program. Technically this is both an advantage and a
disadvantage. Since it is written in Lazarus which is available in Linux/
UNIX, Windows and the Mac, so with out too much work it could be ran under
other os's. But it has only been tested under Linux.
2.The databases are relatively small. I have only included the Messier
and Herschel 400 databases with this application. But creation of
additional databases would not be that difficult.
1) Clean Lenses.
2) Collimate Telescope.
3) Go outside.
4) Find the Moon.
5) Adjust 'scope.
Man, I got a lot of things to get to before I get to finding 'new'
Messier objects. 8])
But, despite my being goofy about it, Thx.
