That was fun.
Here in Truckee we were deep in the path of annularity. Thunderclouds
threatened all afternoon, but dissipated before first contact. We
situated on Prosser Lake's east bank with a completely clear view to the
west, and had a grand time, including a bottle of champagne and dogs
swimming. (Three prominent sun spot complexes showed easily in 10x
binoculars.)
Wife and I've now collected the set, including seeing a full eclipse
from the China/Mongolian border a few years ago.

Glad you enjoyed it. In 1994 I drove to the "boot heel" of New Mexico to see
that mid-morning annular eclipse. I pulled off a lonely 2-lane road in the
middle of nowhere and set up my camera and stuff... Very soon after, a big
SUV with a lot of antennas on it came by and stopped. Out steps a big
mustachioed man in a semblance of a uniform, pistols on each hip. "What are
you doing?" (oops) "I'm here to see the eclipse." "What eclipse?" Well,
that started a nice, friendly conversation about it all, what we're going to
look for, what's going to happen... He stayed with me until 3rd contact
while periodically pulling out his big binoculars to look for drug smugglers
up in the hills. He was a Border Patrol agent. He said he wished he'd known
me earlier when his kid was having trouble understanding astronomy in
school.

I set up a scope to beam an image on a patio table, worked well enough.
However, as it darkened it got rather cool so most of the nudists went
inside.

Mid eclipse feels cold, enough to add sweatshirts, yet our thermometers

lasted 6:47 and the temp dropped from about 106 to about 94...
downright chilly ;>)

was about fifty percent.

Standing on an embankment, saw Moon's shadow racing in at 1000-2000
(?) mph. It engulfed a fast food joint a mile or so down the road and
arrived in just a few seconds.
