5000 BCE Artifacts Found in Baja
INAH has found eight ancient camps just south of Mexicali in the Baja. They range from 400 CE to 5000 BCE. They are linked to the Cocopah culture. They have found many artifacts including circular structures which served as weavers enclosures. Animal bones, including yellow billed grebes, gulls and pelicans, and fish, and large ovens for cooking have been found. They also found clay pots to carry water. They can date some of the material to 5000 BCE due to the layer of "desert varnish" that has accumulated on them.
INAH has the story here (in Spanish) with a nice slide show; (click on the tiny white camera icon);
