"The Nefertiti sculpture has been in Germany since 1913. But it is
only now that Egypt is demanding that this fragile and haunting
object, perched alone in a domed room that overlooks the length of the
museum, be returned."

When my wife and I visited the Pergamon Museum two weeks ago we asked
about the bust of Nefertiti. Apparently it used to be in the Altes
Museum (Old Museum) on Museum Island, but two weeks before our visit
it was moved to the New Museum.
We didn't bother going to see it. You have to make an appointment to
get in, as the crowds are so great and by the time we were making
enquiries (11.00 am) the next available slot wasn't until 2.30 pm!
There is a splendid replica in the Manchester University Museum, which
you can photograph without hoardes of people in the way, and use
flash!
The Berlin one is in a darkened room, surrounded by glass and
tourists, and you are not allowed to use flash or a tripod.
