Location advice

I am interested in Bee keeping and about to book a college course to learn
how to get started. Before I even take this step I need to know if I have a
location where I can put a hive. The only location I have is under a tree
in near permanent shade. It is not too closed in and next to a clean pond.
Could a hive go there?

Not much of a description of the surrounding area but what you described
so far is good enough. But I think you could find a better use of your
money than taking a college course to learn this stuff. There are
countless online resources and books that cover the subject in
excruciating detail. If you can read you can figure this out for
yourself. If you can find a beekeeper in your area, or a beekeeping
group, get in touch with them and save your money for college knitting
classes...

I have a bee tree in my wooded area next to a creek that set a swarm that
went into a wood duck house 15 feet up on a tree in my wooded area next to a
creek and this year I have a new swam that is actually in a hive backed up
on a steep hill that is on the North, and it is in the wooded area right
next to a creek and all are doing fine.
