Subject: FBI Uniform Crime Report Data
As a public service to its readers, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution will
post to its Web site - http://ajc.com -- at 6 p.m. (ET) Sunday the FBI's
preliminary 1997 figures from its nationwide Uniform Crime Reporting
Program, for cities 100,000+ population.
All 1997 figures are preliminary. Final figures and crime rates per 100,000
inhabitants will be published in "Crime in the United States 1997,"
scheduled to be released in the fall of 1998.
In addition to the FBI's 1997 data, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution will
also post 1993 - 1996 data for those cities listed in the agency's embargoed
May 17th press release. The release only contains data for 1996 and 1997.
The FBI plans to post its press release on its Internet site --
http://www.fbi.gov -- after its 6 p.m. (ET) Sunday embargo. Media
representatives can obtain the release in advance of the embargo by
contacting the FBI's press office at 202-324-3691.

Did it His Way Special Report on the Life and Times of Sinatra on
LATimes.com
LOS ANGELES, May 15, 1998 -- Frank Sinatra, the talented, imaginative
and innovative balladeer who dominated popular music longer than any
entertainer before him, died Thursday night of a heart attack at 82.
The Los Angeles Times Web site has put together a unique Special Report
on Frank Sinatra at <http://www.latimes.com/SINATRA>. Sinatra was a
major star in the music and film industry and the Web site contains a
detailed timeline of his professional achievements. There are audio
clips, film clips along with highlights of his best work in the movies
and music.
Yet it was Sinatra's politics and alleged relationships which helped
build his fame and intrigue. His unique expressions, quotes, and life
captured a world audience for over a half a century -- setting Frank
Sinatra apart from the rest. The LATimes.com web site also covers this
aspect of the legendary singer's life at
<http://www.latimes.com/SINATRA>.
Containing the Times Obituary, news coverage and an interactive memorial
for posting comments, the Special Report on Sinatra will be updated
throughout the weekend. Don't miss the LATimes.com Frank Sinatra
Special Report at <http://www.latimes.com/SINATRA>.

There is a proposal to build a cable-car into a World Heritage Area at
Springbrook on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
So far there has been a lot of information put out by the proponents and
much effort has been put into preventing any opposition being heard.
To remedy the situation there is now the official unofficial naturelink

Subject: Guest Speaker coming soon
Hello EdNetters,
I have spoken with Bonnie Bracey and she has agreed to be a Guest Speaker
on EdNet.
Bonnie Bracey is a member of the National Information Infrastructure
committee. The NII is the committee that establishes all sorts of policy
recommendations and such for the Internet. I'll let Bonnie clarify or
correct what the NII is about when she begins her talk.
Bonnie has agreed to speak but we have not settled on a date and time.
But plan on her appearing here in the next few weeks.
Next, I think I need to explain what an EdNet "Guest Speaker" is. As a
matter of course here on EdNet, I contact people who have or may have an
impact on education and/or educational technology. The 'Guest Speaker'
will subscribe to EdNet and I will announce them. Then the 'Guest
Speaker' will make their presentation. When that is done there will be a
'question and answer session.' Then the Guest will depart, or stay
subscribed because it's such a great place to be.
I have other terrific events planned for the months to come. For example,
we will have a group guided tour of the MicroMUSE. The MicroMUSE is an
online multiuser simulation of what 24th century life may be like. The
MicroMUSE began at MIT and has since spread out to use resources at BBN
Labs (an orginal contractor for the building of the Internet). This tour
will be in real-time. We may have two tours to accomodate those who may
not want to be stay awake until 3am (their local time) to take the tour.

over the Internet.
Here's a sampling of a few revenue-enhancing ideas that you'll

larger companies like Amazon.com or Barnes & Noble? Tired of
waiting for commission checks that have no financial clout?
Learn how to negotiate deals directly with publishers to REALLY
create your own money-making online bookstore.
+ AUTHORS/FREELANCE WRITERS... Find out where and how you can
position yourself to be instantly "discovered" by agents, editors
and publishers.
+ Find out how to create a Web site that tells, sells and keeps
'em coming back for more.

that are looking for a few good authors, speakers and consultants.

than selling a product. Learn how to leverage your expertise for
total success.
