You will need to install the latest scalarizr and import the role into scalr using the role/bundle menu option.

Subject: push a server into scalr management

I'm trying to take an existing server on ec2 and make it part of a farm that is already created and has servers in it, but it doesn't seem that there is a mechanism for it.  I've inserted the necessary data into the database and installed the scalarizr agent on the server, however, the scalarizr agent won't startup even though it appears that Scalr can manage it and it says the scalarizr agent is out of date.  Has anyone out there attempted this before and how come I can't update the scalarizr agent if Scalr can do things like reboot and run chef scripts on the server itself?  Also, one of the weirdest behaviors is that the config.ini in private.d keeps getting erased, anyone know why that might be?  szradm also won't re-initialize the server either.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

The only option I see for that is to Create role from a non-scalr
server under the Servers menu, however, that will not take an existing
server and place it in a farm, that will create an ami based on that
image and then you can launch a server based on the ami that is
created, however, the existing server is still left on it's own and
does become a part of scalr management.  There is no option to import
from the Roles/Bundle menu.  However, if there is some mechanism I'm
missing I would like to hear about it.

Regards

You are right. You can create a role and add it. I doubt if you can on the fly add an external system to scalr without importing it first.

We know of the interest in importing running systems into Scalr, and are looking into ways of gracefully doing this.

Thanks! I have tried by inserting the necessary rows into the Scalr
database and getting scalarizr installed on the server in question. I
got pretty far, my Scalr server for the most part controls the added
server however, there are a few glitches, such as the Scalr server
thinks the agent is out of date and the scalarizr agent on the server
won't start up and keeps deleting my config.ini in private.d and wipes
out the default key everytime I run it. I haven't tried any chef runs
on it yet, but will soon. Thanks for your response!
