We still need to nail down a time and what we are actually going to be doing!
A brief summary of where we are so far: Gokul has offered to host us at Aconex, starting on the night of the 14th (thank you!) Neither Birger nor myself will be able to make it on that night :-( (in fact, I can't make every other Thursday either. And I can't make Tuesday's either.
Our original idea was to take turns in presenting chapters from the book. But Andy has proposed that we actually try to use Scala to create stuff, and use the time to work together/learn from each other. I think Andy's proposal is a great one.
- *Students organized themselves into teams of 2 (ideal) or 3 (acceptable) and are connected with a real-world client.* - *Lecture time is devoted to teams presenting either designs or prototypes and the other teams criticizing. This prepares students to participate in engineering design reviews...* - *Occasionally we will use the meeting time for teams to work together (sometimes paired with another team) on a data modeling challenge. This works great in rooms with a lot of blackboards and after 20 minutes we start asking teams to present their work while others criticize and comment.* - *Most evaluation is done by the clients (usually non-technical), professional interface designers whom I bring in, and professional software engineers whom I bring in as mentors and critics. The final presentation and write-up is evaluated by a team of business executives and venture capitalists; students are told to pitch the project as though they were seeking follow-on funding.*
I don't think there are enough of us to manage pairing, but I certainly like the presentation/review format. It also allows us leeway if we have to miss the occasional night.

Monday from 6:15 sounds good.
Not Tuesday (conflicts with weekly Melbourne HackerSpace meeting ... but, integrating Scala and hardware could occur at the HackerSpace !)
Preferably not Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.

I won't be able to attend the proposed meeting on Thursday, 14th July (will be traveling due to work).
Since thursday is out & most prefer mondays, how about we schedule it for mondays at 6:15 pm ? I have some personal stuff after work next week. So mostly will be out on mon Jan 18th . So does Monday 25th July sound ok to everyone ? If it's a yes, I can get abt. organising the office room for that day.
Any thoughts abt. what we want to do that day ? writing small scala programs to begin with sound like a good idea and has my vote. Any ideas for one?

Looks like I'm going to be too busy in the coming months, so I
wouldn't have a chance to participate in Tutorial group,
unfortunately.
Anyway, thanks for opportunity and good luck to you all in Scala
progress!

Yes: I believe the 25th will clash with the Scala User group meeting. So from the 1st August sounds like a good start.
I get the MX on the trains simply to do the puzzles at the back: what about a program to solve the jumble word finder? That way I'll always know what the solution was :-)
