Next Scala meeting Mon October 22: Andrew Browne on SLICK

Our next Scala meeting is Mon October 22 at our usual venue VLSCI next to Melbourne Uni. Arrive from 6pm, talks start 6:30pm. Our resident LINQ expert Andrew Browne will be talking about SLICK, or Scala Language Integrated Connection Kit (surely a case of: start with an acronym, work backwards to a name). This is Typesafe's technology for connecting to databases and other data stores using a regular Scala syntax that's translated into the query language of the underlying store. SLICK is a great example of how the sophisticated new features of Scala, eg macros, can be applied to "real-world" industrial problems like data store access.
