Hi all,

Our next Scala meeting is Mon October 22 at our usual venue VLSCI next to Melbourne Uni. Arrive from 6pm, talks start 6:30pm. Newcomers are always welcome - if it's your first time: go through the unlocked outer street door, and ring the bell by the inner door. Contact me on 0423 879 534 if you have troubles.

Our resident LINQ expert Andrew Browne will be talking about SLICK, or Scala Language Integrated Connection Kit (surely a case of: start with an acronym, work backwards to a name). This is Typesafe's technology for connecting to databases and other data stores using a regular Scala syntax that's translated into the query language of the underlying store. SLICK is a great example of how the sophisticated new features of Scala, eg macros, can be applied to "real-world" industrial problems like data store access.

Hope to see you there,

-Ben
