Hi,

I've installed Scala IDE v3.0 on Eclipse 4.2 Juno using http://download.scala-ide.org/sdk/e38/scala210/stable/site (following the Getting Started with the Scala IDE video) however, when I try to open the scala perspective it is unavailable.

What does it mean that the "perspective is unavailable"? Do you get an exception? (if yes, could you provide the details)

Firstly, according to the getting started video, after installation and restart a setup diagnostic dialog is supposed to be displaed -- that did not happen in my case. As for "perspective", if I go to Window > Open Perspective > Other ... I do NOT see scala, which once again as per the getting started video I am supposed to see. There are no exceptions and/or errors whatsoever.

The described symptoms make me say that the Scala IDE plug-in didn't actually get installed.

Try to start over, hopefully things will go fine this time.

I met the same problem on Ubuntu 13.04, Scala IDE v3.1 on Eclipse 3.8.1. I solved it when launched Eclipse as root and reinstalled the plugin..

Your post suggests you are not allowed to install plugins in eclipse without being root.
How is eclipse installed?
I run Scala on Fedora, Debian and windows.
I always "install" eclipse by downloading and simply extracting a zip or tar.gz file to a place somewhere under my home directory.

Hi

Just tried installing eclipse from the Debian distro and succesfully installed the scala-ide plugin,
So sorry, I can't think of the cause of your problem.
I'd suggest: do it all again.

It looks like root permission is the only way...
