I need to pull most of my starboard toerail off t rebed it due to a leak that's eating my bulkhead under the tabbing.

I am starting to wonder if it isn't easier to just cut the toerail aft of the foredeck off and just put the through-bolts back.

Anybody other than Arne have opinions on this theory? I'm betting folks do. :-)

If I removed the toe rail aft of the foredeck I would replace it with track. Much more useful. I have seen an Express 27 that removed the rail and just put the bolts back in. I don't see any reason why it would present a problem.

Hey Adam,

For offshore compliance toerail is required back to the mast. When I rebuilt my boat I cut the toerail there then left 4" or so (to slide a car onto the track) and put 4 or 5 feet of track. This is a great way to open up the slot in heavy wind. It's also much nicer for crew to sit on. I reinstalled the rest of the toe rail running aft 'cause I'm not sure how much rigidity it may or may not add. Too bad....I was just sitting next to Bill Lee at a seminar this evening,,,,could have asked. I use the after toerail for a spinny turning block near the winch and also at the dock as I have no cleats. I'm pretty sure "Gotcha" has foam/glass toerail to the mast and nothing more. Their deck may be glassed to the hull too. I glassed my hull and deck together 'cause the "apple sauce" was failing. Apple sauce is what they called the hull to deck adhesive at the coop.

Cheers,
Warren
