I probably won't be at the park on Saturday, so here's my early
contribution to the Santa Barbara Institute of Theoretical Juggling. :)
It's not an April Fool's joke, although it's not terribly practical
either...

On Sunday night, I realized that the 2-versus-5 weave we've been doing
(the one with the "cusp") is very closely related to the IV W. Each
feedee's pattern (PSSSSSPSPSSSSSPSSSSSPSSSSSPSPSSSSSPSSSSS) is exactly
the same as the pattern of each person in an IV W.

The trick is that in the IV W, every right-hand throw sees two people
exchange clubs with each other. In the 2-versus-5, every right-hand throw
sees two people exchange clubs with the pair of feeders. Basically,
every pass (A--B) in the IV W becomes two passes (A--F1, F2--B) in the
2-versus-5.

This suggests a general method of turning any "peer-to-peer"
exchange-based juggling pattern for N people into a "client-server"
exchange-based juggling pattern for N+2E people (where E is the number
of exchanges per beat). I tried it on Havana and got this boring-looking
6-person pattern --- although maybe someone can figure out how to spice
it up.

(The general method tells you which feedees are exchanging on any given
beat, but it doesn't tell you how they're moving in the weave, or which
feeder they're exchanging with.)

Hello fellow jugglers,

This Saturday is Spring Insight at UCSB, a day when prospective new
undergrad students tour the campus and listen to various presentations
(and get tours of the circuit lab from me). See
http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/OpenHouse.asp if you're curious.

Would there be any interest in juggling on campus, perhaps on the
chemistry building lawn, for the general enjoyment of all and in order
to promote the juggling group?

Would this be normal club hours, but a different location? I'm
planning on getting to club around 4...

Yes, that's what I'm suggesting: We show up at the regular time, but
on campus instead.

I'm in... can you point out the chemistry building on google maps?

From my experience, proposing an alternate location this close to
Saturday causes some people to be unaware of the change.

Maybe we should see how many people rely to the e-mail.

If you are planning on juggling this Saturday and you see this e-mail,
please respond.

Here it is:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=34.415407,-119.842692&spn=0.003,0.004828&t=h&z=18

The parking structure you can see on the right is Parking 10.

See also this campus map I marked the chem building lawn:
http://uweb.ucsb.edu/~mguidry/UCSB_largemap_chemlawn.GIF
It's really hard to miss, it's the enormous lawn surrounded by
Engineering 2, Chemistry, Broida, Buchanan, etc.

There are a couple of nearby parking structures/lots you can see. I'm
not sure whether or not they'll be charging for parking because of the
event that day, but it's about a 10-15 minute walk from Isla Vista.

I'll go by Isla Vista first and pick up anybody who didn't get the word.
I'll try to be on campus by 4:30.
