GROWING FARMERS WORKSHOP: PLANT BREEDING
Saturday, October 27, 2012
9:30AM-2:30PM
Join Jack Algiere, Stone Barns Center Farm Manager, and Michael Mazourek, Assistant Professor of Plant Breeding & Genetics at Cornell University, as they discuss the role that collaboration plays in understanding, maintaining and developing vegetable seed production. During the first half of the workshop, Jack and Michael will provide a general overview of practical botanical breeding information, including basic anatomy, modes of pollination, technical resources and hands on activities. The second half of the workshop will consist of hands-on, practical experience in the greenhouse. Attendees will participate in vegetable pollination exercises, discuss physical controls, environmental health, and other selection process topics. The goal of this workshop is to empower future farmers to reacquaint themselves with their seed through a cooperative and economic approach. To register, click here.
