Earn the Respect of Your community Would you like to become a fully intergrated member of the OCFA team and help make Villa Park and surrounding communities safe during emergencies like rescues, medical aid calls, fires, mudslides and earthquakes? Are you physically fit and can you make time of initial training and ongoing weekly drill nights, where you will gain confidence and expertise in facing the challenges of a Reserve Firefighter at Station 23?
Would you like to be the "go to" person when a friend or neighbor needs help in an emergency? Your contributions will truly have an impact, both on you and your community. You can still work your regular job, yet enjoy the adrenaline-pumping challenge of your Station 23 reserve job, the comaraderie of teaming with close-knit professionals, and the satisfaction of keeping your neighborhood safe.
Qualifications Reserve Firefighters must meet the minimum qualifications: - Be at least 18 years of age at time of application - Possess a valid California driver's license - Live within 10 minutes of Station 23 - Be in good health and pass our physical ability requirements - Obtain and maintain an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate within 18 months of appointment - Be able to pass a background check
Benefits Reserves will receive a nominal stipend for approved volunteer activities. Reserves are also elgible for limited dental and vision insurance, as well as life insurance coverage and tuition reimbursement. In addition, Reserves are covered by Workers' Compensation Insurance. After five years of service or more, Reserves will receive an annual monetary Continuous Service Award.
As a Reserve Firefighter, you will be issued a uniorm, a Reserve Firefighter badge, ID card and personal protective equipment. You will be eligible to participate on ride-along training with career companies, and will be required to attend a Reserve Fire Academy.
Station 23 is a Level 1 Reserve Firefighter Station Level 1 Reserves are assigned to Engine Companies and provide incident support, respond to structure fires, wildland fires, traffic collisions, and medical aid emergenices.
Time and Training - 207 hours over 17 consecutive weeks (about 12 hours per week - 4 hours on a weeknight and 8 hours on Saturday) - Biddle Test: Physical agility test completed within 9 minutes and 34 seconds.
