Subject: THE DRAFT CONSTITUTION AND KURIA
Let there be no doubt, our MP has previously championed our rights and for that I give him my respect. We the people believe that :- At no given time will we allow our partners within the proposed county to marginalize us partly because we are as enlightened as they are and also we command a bigger share of ... See Moreresource generation to national development within the proposed county because we have relative plenty. Kehancha municipal council is second to Kisumu in Nyanza. We have a daily collection of slightly above Kshs. 900,000/= (factual figure). We have one of the biggest cattle auctions in Kenya, mention tobacco, the border etc.
I know that the idea of Kuria being moved to Migori County is not only unpopular to majority of Kurias but it also reminds us of our past. A past that we dont want to remember because it fed into our cynicism and wears out our dogmas. Kuria is now awake and a consensus is quietly being forged.
It's a consensus between a majority of Kurias who say, "You know what, maybe some of us are comfortable with no county right now and some of us are not. But most of us do believe that whatever region you take us as long as there is devolution then we are ok; most of us do believe that they should be treated with dignity and respect and equity is what we will demand. And in the words of Dr Riro – the bill of rights fundamentally assures us of our rights. I agree with Daktari.
We need to remember that Kenya has changed-no single region/tribe (big or small) will succeed alone. We need to forge synergies because that’s what makes us strong. We cannot walk alone. We need to address the fundamental issues that have held back our progress. We need to face the threats of the future, threats that face the Kuria people.
