There are many solutions for social makers:

  * places with a single or narrow focus:
      NY City Resistor - electronics
Hackerbot labs - electronics / material works

  * places that have a broad focus:
      Bucketworks
      Jigsaw Renaissance

  I am wondering:
"What is the solution for people who want to socially develop code?"

  There is reduced need because:
  * anyone can just get on the Internet, make something, share it with people on IRC.

...and in some ways, this is the superior solution.

However, I wonder:  "Is there a space for Open Source software developers to meet in person?"
That is, besides conferences in Mexico and such.

What is the software developer's real-world in-person regular-meeting-together exploratory coding environment?

Or is the nature of the beast fundamentally anti-social?

A broad request for thoughts, developments, ideas, and imaginations.

I think its important that the society that spawns a Open Source
project determines the culture of a project. So Linux dev is different
than BSD dev, etc...

But it is possible to create a space conducive to such things.

"What is the ideal space for BOF/Code Sprint meetings?" (Birds of a
Feather).
