Subject: Bike

I'm thinking about buying a road/hybrid bike in the $200-$300 range.
Anybody have recommendations for brand? A good used bike shop in the area?
etc?
The goal is to just ride more in general, with the rough plan being to ride
6 miles or so to the bus stop south of my house and hop the bus the rest of
the way to work.

Go to a bike shop and get fitted. They'll do it for free and it will
give you an idea of what sizes to look for when looking used
(Craigslist for instance).

Try on all sorts of bikes, from expensive to cheap, and learn what you
like. The bike shops will also accommodate that :)

Anders' advice is good.  I have a road bike that I am looking to sell.  It's a
good quilty if lesser known brand.  If you'd like to take it for a spin
sometime I'd be happy to accomodate that.

It's the classic style with the down turned handlebars.  It's definitely not a
hybrid, so if you really want a hybrid this probably isn't for you.

Bikeworks is a non-prof out in Columbia City (just go south on
Rainer).  People donate their used bikes, Bikeworks refurbishes them,
and sales them to us.

http://www.bikeworks.org/

I bought my bike from there, and my best friend bought on there too...
and we both love the place.  The shop manager's name is Kent, and he
is very knowledgeable, and eager to get you on a bike that you'll
like.
