I have already emailed Lion about this but will re-iterate it here per
his suggestion for everyone to chime in on.

If it is ok with most of you I would be willing to take responsibility
for the space for the following idea:

Also wanted to propose another possible use for the space and that
would be to have the SeaBUG (Seattle BSD users group) meetings there.
It looks like from their site ( www.seabug.org ) that they haven't had
any regular meetings for a while and Im guessing that was due to not
having a space.

The BSD group is one Ive been interested in for a while as I really
want to learn more about BSD and I think this would be a good
opportunity for me and others to learn about it.

I emailed the SeaBUG list and several people said they would
come to meetings in that area if they started up again.

We could also ask the SeaBUG members for donations to go toward paying
for the space.

Let me know if this is doable and what it would take for this to
happen. Im thinking that the SeaBUG meets would probably happen on a
weeknight - probably thursday as that is when they traditionally meet.

So in short - weekly evening SeaBUG meetings at the SaturdayHouse
space which can potentially create donations to help pay for the space.

Myrddin first messaged me about this, and I
directed him to ask the list. Nobody responded,
(since I think they were waiting for Brian or I to
chime in, and I think we were waiting for
someone-not-us to chime in,) so I suggested
writing...

http://www.communitywiki.org/odd/House/SpaceUse

...and then putting it to the group.

I think this would be a good thing for us to test out
our Consensus Polling ideas on.

Personally, I think it's a slam dunk: "Of course the
BSD group can come." But it's not my decision;
It's all of ours. There are also questions like: "OK,
who will open the space? Who is entrusted with
keys and access codes?"

(We'll probably talk about this tomorrow, too,
at our Wednesday meet. Myrddin, you are
invited, as is everyone else on the list.)

Take care,
Lion =^_^=

I personally love the idea of lots of usergroups meeting at the
Saturday House space! There are some logistics to figure out, opening,
closing, scheduling, etc. But overall it seems like a great idea.

SH folks: Let's plan on talking about this tomorrow night. (but not
making final decisions, since we don't know how to do that yet. ;)

Quick question for myrddinbach: Did you really mean weekly? Or were
you thinking monthy?

Take care,
-Brian

Recently my organization moved to having a member based calendar, that let people reserve the conference room.  It make life much easier and makes using the conference room much nicer.

I hope there is an automated solution to reserving the space that can be worked out.

Since we're using google apps for hosting saturdayhouse.org, we can
use their calendar if we want, and give accounts to many people for
scheduling:

Weekly or Monthly I think would mostly be determined by the level of
interst. Personally I wouldn't mind weekly or even bi-weekly. If not
enough people can commit to that kind of time frame then it can go to
monthly or to whatever type of schedule would fit the level of
interest of those attending.

Another idea:

Use the wiki?

I just added a calendar to the wiki, by putting
the text "month:+0" into the sidebar.

We could fill out a wiki page wherever we wanted something.

Advantages:
* Anyone can access it.
-- if someone puts something inappropriate, we can delete it
* It's quite visible, being integrated into the wiki.
* It's easy to use.

Disadvantages:
* Deleted pages take 14 days, before they stop drawing
attention to themselves.
* no iCal integration, yet, that I know of

Thoughts?

This begs the larger question of relocating the wiki to
another domain; But the calendaring extension is
easy to install; You just drop a file into a directory.
