Anyone have the scoop on what the hours are, or if it's still open? Last I checked he had opened it way out past China Grove and hours were unpredictable. We'll be in SA in a couple of weeks and I want to fulfill my beanburger cravings.
EZs just won't do. You know they actually tried to put mustard and lettuce on my beanburger once? Blasphemers!

I have not heard the name Sills for a long time. Should I would assume that is the same folks who used to be on Broadway (?) near the Austin Highway?

I never had the opportunity to visit Sill's (in fact, I don't even know when they closed). Someone believed that they had re-opened in LaVernia a few years ago, but if they did, they are no longer open.

I'm not sure about the bean burger. I'll ask the wife - she went there more. At home I layer a bun, meat, refired beans, Fritos, shreaded cheese, bacon and and then the top bun. I think it is about 50 calories total.
Chris Madrid's is a latecomer to the beanburger party. The Sills of which I speak is indeed the reincarnation of the location that was once upon a time located at Austin Highway near Broadway, where the Stop N Go is now. Sills closed down in the early 80s, I believe.
Billy T's, on Austin Highway near Eldon, claims to use the original Sills recipe, but it's just not the same.
The Sills beanburger, to the best of my recollection, is a toasted bun, a meat pattie, refried beans, fritos, onions, and Cheez Whiz. Jalapenos are optional but a welcome addition. Very, very greasy.
My husband and I went to the location that's out Highway 87 a few years ago, and it was just as good as I remembered it to be.

Thanks. Let us know what you find. My wife seems to think that Billy T's is pretty close to what she remembers from Sills. While not going as often as she did growing up, I liked the chili they served.

Disconnected. Bummer. If anyone ever goes out in that direction, take a peek and see if the restaurant's still there!
