Hi Folks,
We were late in posting information for our September meeting, but, we do have an interesting talk lined up. Google recently acquired Metaweb (official announcement) and Freebase was a big part of that acquisition.
Freebase Talk by Kirrily Robert
Freebase is a collection of structured data about 12 million real-world entities such as people, places, books, music, and more. Its REST API and hosted development platform make it easy to build apps that connect Freebase's data with other information on the web. Learn the basics of Freebase, how to query it, and how to build apps on it, in this introductory session.
Kirrily Robert has over fifteen years' experience in open source and internet technologies, and has worked on Freebase since 2007. Hailing originally from Melbourne, Australia, she now works for Google out of their San Francisco office, where she leads Freebase's community and developer relations. She also runs the San Francisco Freebase Meetup group.
If you do plan to join us, please try to arrive by 6:30pm for two reasons. First of all, we provide food for the first 100 or so people that show up. So, your odds of getting some free dinner are greatly improved by arriving sooner than later. Secondly, we are likely to have one or more lightning talks starting at 6:45pm. So, you will have just enough time to get some food before the lightning talks start.
