Art -- I'm passing this on to the Geeks group to spread your tumbleweed around. 

I'm heading to the Maker Faire on Saturday with my curious children in tow. This is my first time to (finally!) make it. Would love to know if anyone has any best practices to share for the newbie faire-goer. I've been perusing the sessions and booths and I'm overwhelmed with all the awesome that will be on that patch of land.

Bring food and water. You can buy both there, but lines are long, prices are high, and selection is slim. Be prepared for total chaos and extreme crowds (earlier is much better for crowds! you might miss a couple people that aren't set up yet, but you'll get a lot more energy out of the people that do show up on time) 

Last time we parked at the nearby mall and walked a few blocks over rather than drive around for hours in circles and never find a place to park. The parking volunteers… well if you can't say anything nice, zip it eh?

You won't get to see it all in one day. Sad but true. Prioritize, and divide and conquer. 

You might think about bringing business cards or something else to give/receive to remember interesting folks by.

As far as transportation - we park in Mountain View and take the CalTrain.  Much easier than parking there.
