CD refinishing / polishing

My father had a beloved opera CD (Fritz Wunderlich, since you asked) that is
scratched in a couple of places in a way that makes several tracks fail.
I'll see if ripping it to an ISO will work, and then burning to a new CD.
However has anyone had experience with refinishing gadgets or services? It's
one of those things where learning from another geeks experience is so
valuable.....
