Hello Geeks,

There is much to learn from Boulder as a model startup ecosystem.  Recently, the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce organized a trip to Boulder to learn about the components and interactions that combine to create this hospitable startup environment. The Santa Cruz group included our Mayor and 4 City Councilmembers, the Chancellor and others from UCSC, and private individuals.

It is great to know that that City and civic organizations are taking strides to understand this and are embracing new ideas. This is our opportunity to hear first-hand what was learned, where the opportunities lie, and understand how we can shape our future.

If you are interested, join us on April 30,  5:30 at the MAH for a informal panel discussion with members of our community who were on the trip including:

Hilary Bryant — Mayor of Santa Cruz
Art Ramirez — Dean of Baskin School of Engineering UCSC
Bill Tysseling — Santa Cruz Chamber
Bill Richter — Richter Law Offices
David Terrazas — Santa Cruz City Council member
Manu Koenig — Civinomics

Hey Geeks,

We are at an interesting point with our city leadership. We have a lot of folks who are asking questions about how we invigorate and infuse our tech ecosystem. I don't believe there is a boilerplate solution that will apply to the unique constraints and opportunities we have in Santa Cruz. I'd love to see many geeks participate in this conversation about shaping the future tech ecosystem in Santa Cruz.

Please come next Tuesday if you are able.

Also, there are two forums started over on Civinomics here:

It's a great way to dive into the conversation and start exploring possibilities.

Cheers, Margaret
