Geeks, in case this helps anyone in Santa Cruz- would love to hire locally - am looking for a Project Manager here for several Rails and mobile projects. If anyone has recommendations I'd love to hear them. This will be a 1/2 - 3/4 time position.
I wouldn't work for Quinn… Quinn was CEO of linemonkey,
A company that Just went bankrupt. When they went bankrupt, Quinn did so making a lot of enemies in Santa Cruz. He had a full team (10 or so people) working for him. He came in to the office on pay day, and announced that the company did not have the money to pay any of us for the last month of work we put in.
He worked us like slaves, and then didn't even pay us what he owed us.
Rumor has it that he did the same thing back in the 90s.
Bottom line, you work for Quinn, you may or may not get paid.
He's growing a beard to hide his identity.
I'm tired of seeing him use the santa cruz community without regard to the way he's treated that same community in the past. someone should have told him it was a small town….
Work with him at your own risk!

Wow. I suppose those words speak well for Nick, though his facts are off.
If anyone has any questions for me about LineMonkey, a company we had in Santa Cruz for three years, I'm happy to address them. We did our best to start a company here and in the end we didn't succeed - which sucks. I can honestly say I tried my best for everyone involved, and that it is truly a terrible experience when investments don't come through in the 11th hour.
But this list doesn't seem like the appropriate place for this. If anyone wants to be in touch on this or any related topics, I'm available.

I know nothing regarding the situation here, but ... such matters should never be vented in such a public forum. Issues such as these should be addresses personally in my opinion.

We are all part of a community and one way our community story is told is through this public Google group. In addition to how this affects individuals, this reflects on us all as a whole. I'd like to ask that we let this thread end here.

Yes suppression reflects well on the group. Avoidance of conflict at all costs, even the intentional infliction of harm on others by silence, that's a very bad policy.

We are all part of a community and one way our community story is told is through this public Google group. In addition to how this affects individuals, this reflects on us all as a whole. I'd like to ask that we let this thread end here.

Let me start by saying, that no one wants their dirty laundry publicly aired. But it is a small community here and this laundry is now in the air. I feel obligated to throw in another perspective.
Speaking as someone who lost his investment in LM, I still hold very high regards for Quinn. He has changed my life, and the lives of many people around me through mentorship and setting an example of making the most of life. I count myself lucky to know him.
I have also worked for him in the past. He's very enthusiastic and works at a high pace. As a result, I found myself working extra hard because I wanted to please him. On the other hand, he has always supported me in resetting his expectations if I didn't think I could get something done on time. In general. it's up to you to set expectations for the people you are working with (or for anyone in your life at all).
Nicolas, I would like to point out to you that publicly criticizing your previous employer is a double edged sword and is probably not going to help you get a job. I'm all in favor of whistle blowers and transparency, but this sounds more like a personal attack. There are many who have or even still work for Quinn and are quite happy. I understand that you feel like a victim of the bankruptcy of LineMonkey, but in truth, we are all victims of it. Not least of which is Quinn himself. I implore you to seek the humanity in the situation and try and understand him as I do, a kind and caring person who has just been faced with the loss of everything he just spent years pouring his heart into.
