I apologize to the group for posting this today. This message was missed by our group and never went out, due the moderation setting on the group. i just now accidentally posted it.

I understand there was a large showing of the SYV cycling communtity at this event. I hope the representation of the entire SB Cycling community
will increase awareness of cyclists on the road and improve safety standards for bicyclists.

The cycling community lost another rider this past weekend at the Mariposa Stage Race in a crash. Suzanne Rivera was a member of the B4T9 ladies racing team in SB, coached by Jil Gass.

Jim and Suzanne we will miss you and are thoughts are with your family and friends.

For those of you who haven't heard.  The Cutters lost a great member and
founder on Sunday.  Jim Hamlin was hit and killed on highway 1.  Below are
the details for Friday and Saturday.  If you can make it I know the
Cutters would appreciate the showing of support.

Jim Hamlin's funeral services and Memorial Ride.

Friday, May 4th 4:00 pmFirst Christian Church
1550 South College Drive, between Battles and Enos.

So now we can also confirm our "Cutter Jim" Memorial Ride on Saturday, May
5th at 8:00 am, meeting at the Albertson's parking lot in Orcutt. This is
a no-drop ride at a very gentle pace. Can someone please make sure all the
Tailwinds CLUB knows as well. Jim used to ride with them and had some good
friends there too. As far as I'm concerned, any cyclist is welcome. Diane,
can you sag? Unofficially? Any SB and Solvang riders wishing to
participate out of respect for a fallen comrade are welcome also. The Pot
Luck BBQ is still being planned, for now it will still be at Rice Ranch
Park. Cutters will provide meat for about 50 people. Please bring
something for the pot luck.

Also, I found out the exact site of the incident: on the straight away
going UP Vandenberg Hill towards Firefighter Rd, about 2/3 of the way
before the sweeping left hand turn. This I gleaned from Joe, a new rider
in the area who works with me. He was driving home to Lompoc after doing
the Sunday ride with a few other Cutters. He saw the ambulance and other
vehicles but had no idea what was going on and drove by.

In Jim's name,

Sincerely,

Scott,Bob and Tony
