Soling Cup Series Challenge

We discussed the proposed series for 2010 without any firm schedule on
12/6/09.
I propose that we do a 11 or 12 month series with one specific week
dedicated to the points total each month. Allowing only one throw out
based on the length of the series.
I also would like to propose that the current holder of the cup
(myself) be designated as the race director for each race dedicated to
the cup. This would always allow a different winner of the cup each
year rather than a repeat winner. Not that I would not want to defend
the cup during the year but I believe that this is a fair method of
promoting competition.
I would like to hear input from all of the members regarding this
proposal.

George and All, I agree with a "Year Long Cup Challenge" this gives us
Newbie's a better chance to improve our boat tuning and racing tactics skill
to get to the Cup level.. I have learned a lot in a short time thanks to all
members hints, tips , hands on sail tuning, etc.
I don't think you should be the permanent race director for two reasons, but
appreciate and understand your offer.
1. All members should have the opportunity to bear the responsibility of
starting and monitoring a qualifying race. I didn't realize the tension of
calling a start, mark rounding, and finish until I RD'd the third race. I'm
certain we will all help any inexperienced RD with the rules if a question
arises.
2. It has always been my goal in racing to beat the two boats who are
consistently ahead of me. This is how I try to improve my skills. George, if
you don't race we won't have the opportunity to beat the best and go home
with a sense of satisfaction.

Hope fully we can alternate all members as RD in the cup challenge.
I personally would like to see the series broken into 2 six months segments.
That would be passing the cup twice yearly that is what we did this year.
For a fair competition there should be at least one throw out per 6.
A lot can happen in six months with illness, family plans, vacations, etc.
Having a throw out allows for fair competition.
As always these matters need to be discussed by the club and all
conclusions be a result of a majority vote.
I would also like to start another round robin event either this Sunday or next Sunday.
We can talk about this at the pond also.

NO NO NO George you have to race for the cup again. That is the name of the game to get your name on the cup as many times as you can. But I thing the cup should only be passed once a year. In December as has been. 12 races threw out the year with 2 throw outs. We need to rotate RD let every one have a day of calling races. You learn and see a lot more by watching and having to make the calls. Plus King George you know I want a peace of 830 to chew on.

Okay so a couple of you want to attempt to chew on my transom I'm good
with that.....bring it on! The competition is really one of the
biggest reasons we do this.
I really prefer sailing over being RD anyway but I thought it might
be an option. I will indeed defend the cup as it looks really good
sitting in the boat shed staring at me!
Stan, I don't know about being the best, I may have won this series
but there are far more experienced skippers thumbing the sticks at the
pond. I won't say that I am not determined to be better, but far from
the best. I believe that my doing well has to do with the people I
sail with. My knowlege base was very limited when I started and can
only thank my fellow skippers for teaching me and driving me to
improve.
I am open to any way we finally decide to format the cup challenge
although I would prefer to have it yearly rather than bi-annually.
Round Robin racing is for sure fun but this coming week is the Soling
Nationals and Dave and Jimmy Carter won't be present, I'd hate to
start a series without them being able to sail. Besides that we have
the Footy regatta the following week and it seems that all kinds of
regattas are piled up during the winter months.
We will have to discuss it more at the field I guess

Scroll down to the very bottom of the page. When you see a line that
looks like the one below, click on it. Spreadsheet will then be
downloaded and SHOULD automatically call you EXCEL program to display
the results.

Come on guys I know I look stupid looks are deceiving. Google wont let me to it it said they were not available and sends me to some kind of google help page. Trust me I have been to the site a few times already checking the scores. Sharkman you didn't block me out of my ticket info so I,ll pay them late and loss my license.

Dave you aren't blocked from anything.
I went to the site and experienced the same thing.
I deleted the spreadsheet and then installed it again.
It seems to work now.
