Dear Sirs,

we are cataloguing the library of a former professor of european medieval literature who had also a small collection of oriental texts. Among these, there is a book which has lost its cover, so we cannot identifiy it. It is written in Sanskrit and contains several Upanishads (Isa, Kena, Katha, Prasna, Mundaka, Mandukya aso.). The short prologue in English is signed by Ambica Charan Bandopadhya of Ágarpara.

Now we have searched in the database of sanskritdocuments.org and found a book under number 1901:

1901. Ishopanishat  Swami Bhaskaranand Saraswati Ji; RELIGION. THEOLOGY, 2006, Ambica charan Bandopadhya of Agarpara District 24 Perannah, 501 pages. Barcode 1990030083621   Scan available.

It could be this book we are trying to catalogue, because it is the only one by
Ambica Charan Bandopadhya. We have downloaded several times the DLI Downloader 0.2 and tried to download a scan of this book in order to check if it is the one we have, but the connection fails or the programme does not work on our computer (Windows 7).

We thought that perhaps someone on this mailing list could send us a scan at least of the first 10 pages so that we can identify the book, catalogue it for our library and even restore the cover.

We would be very grateful for any help you could give us.
Sincerely yours

@Victor:

I have downloaded the first 10 pages of this book using a more stable custom DLI command-line downloader that I wrote myself (for downloads I prefer command-line rather than GUI based applications). I am attaching the file. If this group does not allow attachments and you did not get the attachment I will send it separately to you.

FYI, the book does not have a cover page, it starts with preface directly, though there is a picture of Sri Bhaskaranand Saraswati.

I have been able to download from the DLI Bangalore site the first 15 pages of the book that you mention.  I am new to this group and am not sure if attachments are allowed to mails sent to this group.  Some other groups that I know do not allow attachments.

I am attaching those 15 pages in a separate mail to victor...@usc.es.

I too use Windows 7 but this time had no difficulty in downloading the book after I located it.  I have not been so lucky on other occasions.  The Gods who run DLI are capricious!

PS. By God!.  Google is really marvellous!

After I had sent my personal mail to you and while composing this one afterwards, I noticed the link 'Attach a file'.  That settles my doubt and attachments are allowed.  When I pressed the 'Send' button, Google asked me whether I wish to attach anything to this mail as the text contains the phrase 'I am attaching'.  Is it benevolent paternalism or the Big Brother Watching?

For some reason, pages 18 and 19 are missing in the book. Seems like first part of Kenopnishad is missing. I only went that far. Thanks.  Narayan Dravid

The pages appear a little later, out of sequence (due to the book-binding error perhaps).
