Welcome to the SAHF property tax group page!
SAHF has eight sophisticated not-for-profit members committed to long-term, sustainable ownership and continued affordability of multifamily rental properties for low-income families, seniors, and disabled individuals. Together, they provide homes for approximately 80,000 low-income households. Our recently updated Property Tax Survey contains information about tax exemptions, abatements, and assessment practices in each state. It's laid out so that researchers and advocates can either see the sum of practices in a given state, or compare how particular issues are dealt with across all states. It also includes the relevant statutes, cases, or regulations from which the information is derived and weblinks to those sources where available. It may take a few moments to completely load, so please be patient.
We have also summarized this information in a national map, placing states into five rough categories by color. Please visit our Property Tax Maps page for both the color version and a printer-friendly black and white version. We solicit your help in in the form of comments and corrections, so this survey can be made as accurate and useful as possible. Please contact us if you notice any inaccuracies. One final note: this page is not intended to provide legal advice.
