It seems that Sage 5.7.beta0 is almost there in sense of building and
running Sage on a recent Cygwin (on a 64-bit Windows 7 system).

I've built it with very minimal hacks (a couple of trac tickets which
didn't make it into this release yet) and rebasing twice during the
installation.

Just putting it here for reference:

JP and I are trying Cygwin with 5.5.rc0 and various spkgs listed at
[link] and #6743.
Currently all seems to be well for him on Win 7, I'm having issues
with cvxopt but otherwise ok on spkgs.

Yes, but I think sage would easily run in colinux. I've done so on several
occasions with the main difficulty being disk space in their predefined 2gb
virtual drive.

I wouldn't call colinux a viable approach though, since it crashes the host

If this Cygwin build is stable then there are now 3 different ways to run
sage under the windows OS (Virtualisation, Colinux and Cygwin).
From my point of view Virtualisation is the superior variant for general

Thanks for the feedback and I may indeed look at the VirtualBox
option. It would be great to have this running if I can just do so
