An evening of choral splendour awaits
On 26 May at 19:30, Tygerberg Children's Choir will give its first concert
of the year in The Baxter Concert Hall. Tickets cost R90pp and can be
booked through Computicket.
Works performed will include Psalms for Dancing by Douglas Coombes,
Brahms' Ave Maria, A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and Mr. Sandman.
For four glorious decades the Tygerberg Children's Choir, based in Cape
Town's Northern Suburbs and under the baton of internationally acclaimed
conductor Hennie Loock with Theresa Loock as arranger and accompanist, has
taken lovers of choral music on a very special musical journey. The choir
regularly performs with great aplomb for heads of state, princes, kings
and queens and is one of South-Africa's proudest export products. The
choir has won every major international choral competition since its
inception in 1972, and its unsurpassed legato singing, maturity of sound,
musical power and dynamic interpretation of very difficult material makes
Tygerberg Children's Choir a foremost exponent in the world of
international competition choirs.
In July 2010, these highly talented children participated in the world's
flagship choral competition, the 6th World Choir Games in Shaoxing, China,
where they received two gold medals and were crowned Double World
Champions - in the Religions of the World and Folklore categories. The
World Choir Games is widely regarded as the 'Olympic Games" for choirs,
and only the very best choirs from all over the world are invited to
participate. The fact that Tygerberg Children's Choir is a children's
choir aged between 10 and 14, and that these results were obtained against
much older choirs, makes the achievement even more remarkable.
In July this year, the choir will participate in the 7th World Choir
Games, this time in Cincinnati, Ohio to defend its position achieved two
years ago.
And this year, 2012, is reunion year. The 40th Reunion will take place
from 6-9 December, with a Gala Reunion Concert in Artscape Opera House on
Saturday 8 December at 19:30. The choir will be joined by a wide array of
artists, of which the majority will be ex-choristers. Bookings through

Tygerberg -Kinderkoor in die Baxter Konsertsaal
Op 26 Mei om 19:30 sal Tygerberg-kinderkoor sy eerste konsert van die jaar
in die Baxter-konsertsaal lewer. Werke wat uitgevoer sal word sluit in
Psalms for Dancing deur Douglas Coombes, Brahms se Ave Maria, A
Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, Mr. Sandman en Jannie du Toit se Gee
ons Vrede. Kaartjies kos R90pp en is beskikbaar by Computicket.
Vir vier glorieryke dekades neem die koor, onder leiding van
internasionaal bekroonde dirigent Hennie Loock en met Theresa Loock as
verwerker en begeleier, koorliefhebbers op 'n baie spesiale musikale reis.
Die koor tree gereeld op vir staatshoofde, konings, koninginne en prinse
en is een van Suid-Afrika se trotse uitvoerprodukte. Tygerberg-kinderkoor
het elke belangrike internasionale koorkompetisie gewen sedert sy ontstaan
in 1972, en sy kenmerkende legatosang, klankvolwassenheid, musikale krag
en dinamiese interpretasievaardigheid ken geen gelyke onder internasionale
kompetisiekore nie. Die koor se groot verskeidenheid uitstekende CD's
getuig van sy besonderse musikale nalatenskap.
In Julie 2010 het Tygerberg-kinderkoor in drie afdelings deelgeneem aan
die voorste koorkompetisie in die w�reld vandag, die 6de W�reldkorespele
in Shaoxing, China. Slegs die beste internasionale kore word genooi om
deel te neem. Tygerberg Kinderkoor is as w�reldkampioene bekroon in beide
die Volksmusiek- en Geestelikemusiek-afdelings. Dis die eerste keer sedert
die koor se ontstaan dat hy twee afdelings in dieselfde kompetisie wen.
Die feit dat diie koorlede almal tussen 10 en 14 jaar oud is, en dat
hierdie prestasie teen soveel ouer kore behaal is, maak dit soveel meer
merkwaardig.
In Julie vanjaar gaan die koor sy posisie verdedig by die 7de
W�reldkorespele in Cincinnati, Ohio.
2012 is re�niejaar. Die koor se 40ste re�nie vind die naweek van 6-9
Desember plaas, met �n Gala-re�niekonsert in Kunstekaap Opera op Saterdag
8 Desember om 19:30. �n Vereskeidenheid topkunstenaars, waarvan vele
oudkoorlede, sal by die koor aansluit. Bespreek by Computicket.
