Hi Guys,

This is the post trek mail thread, please post your photos and write-ups in this mail thread.

A quick summary of the trek :

You get a satisfaction when you do something different. I definitely felt it in this trek.
The trek was completed successfully by 29 participants. Lots of learning , lots of fun and lots of trekking in lots of rain.

All the participants from different cites grouped @ Natham and went to the nearby village where we started trekking. We climbed a peak and then made it to the tribal village. After an awesome welcome lunch we moved out for a mini trek to reach the other phase of the mountain for rock climbing lessons. Basics of rock climbing was covered and the participants climbed two small rock faces.

The return trek was pretty enjoyable as it was dark and raining heavily. A good dinner was followed by a session to introduce basic knots. We also interected with the children in the village and got to know their needs. The money out of this social trek has to be used for them, why not get then what they like? Their wish list was pretty big, but finally we narrowed on the following stuff, a black board for the school, a filing cabinet, uniforms , a cricket kit and a football. They also wanted a computer which can be given to them if someone is ready to donate their old one[Please contact me if you wish to do so]. Else we can think of it in the next social trek,.

On the second day, we could not proceed with the planned advanced rock climbing as the rains had made all the rocks pretty slippery. So we decided to conquer the local peak. We spent quite some time on the peak. Awesome and refreshing climate recharged us.Then we came back to the village. After brunch, we descended to ground level. But,,,     no trek would be complete without water,,,,

So we decided to go to a falls which could be reached  by a 90 minute trek. The effort was worthwhile. After a good massage from the falls, we returned to Natham, had dinner and took a load auto to Kottambatti where we boarded the bus to Chennai.

The post trek mail isn't complete without thanking a few people.

Sailesh,Lokhu - Getting all the participants into the buses is not easy when a bunch of them are stuck up in traffic in different parts of Chennai. Lok, sailesh and Myself somehow managed to get all the participant in. All the stuck participants were picked up at the nearest signals. [See how effective 3 point contact is. ]
Thanks Sailesh for booking the tickets.

Shanmugavel
-  Though he had to drop out in the last moment he made sure that all the food and snacks were delivered on time at CMBT.

Arul - For having identified such an amazing village.

Vipin , 'Paravai' Sagar, trichy participants - For going all the way to Madurai and ensuring that the return tickets were not sold out.

Chithra  for helping me sweep throughout the trek.

Ela, imran for helping me with the accounts.

Phottamai
[photographer+nattaamai] for some amazing photos.
Cycle akka - for teaching us a new rhyme. Best entertainer award goes to you.
Prasad - The generous man who lent me his D60 for almost the whole trek.

I might have missed out a few names, please don't mistake me.
This was an amazing team and I hope to see you in future treks. You have to be proud. What we did will help in increasing the literacy rate of the tribal village.

Regards,

SUJAI

Hello hello,

I just don't believe this.. 2 days after the trek and this is only the second post trek email. Wake up gang!

A thoroughly enjoyable and unique experience. Different from any CTC treks I have been to before. Some of the highlights of the trek for me were

- The small bus accident en route and the Madurai patriotism!

- Brilliant marketing by the tender coconut vendors.

- CTC style jeep travel J

- Easy trails and spirited first timers.

- Learning some new knots. (Yet to perfect the Hangman’s knot

  though)

- Animated rock climbing by all, and trekking in the rain.

- Interacting with the kids and volunteers

- A roof over our heads for the night, hot tea, idlis and sambar

  rice.

- Glory in the mango orchard

- Volleyball with the villagers and our very own district champ!

- The picturesque waterfall & the mad rush to Madurai to get the

  bus.

- Biscuits and pongal at 3.00 am at villupuram.

- Getting back to work on Monday morning counting the seconds

  until the next weekend

I must say that the whole team was real fun be with. Looking fwd to more treks with you guys. Happy trekking

Sagar S

Hi All,

Here' s to breaking the silence. I haven't been able to do the short
write-up that Sujai had asked me for. But what I have been doing
selfishly is filling up the only blog I maintain with every detail I
could catch before I begin to forget. Sometime this week I will push
myself to condensing it into something shorter. For those of you who
hate long blogs, you're gonna hate it every bit. So I suggest you
wait. But for the rest of you, here is a very long recap of my
experience that I know I will simply love reading back and smiling
at.

Hello All,

My write up for the trek. Sorry for the delay...

This was my second trek after Nagala 40. The journey started with me
getting lost at CMBT (Oh that, it happens because I don’t know Tamil
and was unable to find the Amul store through the normal means “Ask
someone”). Through the journey on my foot I was able to find it and
other fellow CTC’ians. Thank god as I was strongly suspecting that
this was a wrong day or I am standing at a wrong place.

We started around 9 pm from CMBT and we get our share of luck as the
bus scraped a car (I was at the window and watched everything live).
The scraping lasted 10 seconds and drama lasted for an hour. But this
does not affect us. We were busy taking pics, eating dinner and
shopping around.

Day 1- From Natham we were loaded in a lorry and the journey began CTC
style. Going up, waiting for others as a team and conquering peaks
before the lunch. But I do admit the view from the peak was worth it
and I forgot about food for sometime. The food was good and simple.
After that we moved to another peak for basic rock climbing. Arul and
Sujai took the lessons at the most unusual classroom. I was standing
on a thin rock with 3 others who were uttering encouraging words
(Planning my murder and make it look like suicide). How thoughtful of
them.

After the session we spend some time with the kids of village. Since
it was raining we proceeded with wet clothes for dinner and the soup
made by organizers was worth the trip. Only after having that I
uttered a coherent word in 15 minutes. Then we had a session on basic
knots by Arul and Sujai. Sorry don’t remember the names of the knots.

Day 2 - Next day started with conquering another peak. Advanced rock
climbing session was cancelled due to rains (So sad). This peak was
sacred to the tribal as they have a old story attached to it, so we
all ascended barefoot from some point in ascend. But I enjoyed it too
and walked all the way back barefoot. This was better than I thought.

Then had brunch of idlis and after that we started back. But no CTC
trip is over without water so we went to a water fall and enjoyed it
to the core. Then back to Natham in lorry singing songs in all
languages Hindi, Tamil and English. After dinner we all boarded the
bus and I slept as soon as I can. The journey ended in the morning
with goodbyes and promises to meet again in some trek. Hopefully yes,
we will.

Organizers – Thanks for the wonderful trip.
Fellow CTC’ians – Thanks for the wonderful time. Cya soon

Cheers Ela

Hi All,

[ Sorry for posting so late..But better late than never :-) ]

It was a fantastic trek to such a beautiful village Malaiyur, lots of greenery, many kinds of trees, scenic peaks, panoramic views..

Accompnied with energetic & friendly trekkers like u all..n also a cool climate..& special mention to meals, soup & tea served hot..

No one can forget all those youthful travel modes, those rock climbing lectures (at some odd classroom & during sleepy time :-)) & the long walk to the refreshing waterfall..

An attachment that has been developed with the village kids & people..understanding their needs & taking small share of responsibilities towards them definitely keeps awake the socialised Trekker in we all..

It was definitely a great experience that everybody will cherish & like to revise many times..maybe visiting again or at least pressing the rewind button on one's memory tape..

I thank all organizers, co-trekkers & CTC for such trekking opportunity & hope to see you all in some other trek..

Please check out photos taken by me on the following link..

P.S. I am not a great photographer, also don't have a high config. Cam..these are taken by my mobile Cam on the go..to capture some nice spots & moments..

I am sure you will enjoy watching them..
