Although not the finest namer of technologies, Alex Tkachman is well known in the Groovy community for the joint compiler and a number of other language improvements, in particular in the area of performance. He is also the creator of Groovy++, the lightning-fast, strongly-typed Groovy-like language compatible with Groovy and has recently written a number of articles on his work on Gretty, a Network server based on Netty. Gretty is a Network server built from the Ground up on performance and simplicity of use. Although I think it's in it's early stages (particularly for documentation), playing around with it would give us the chance to learn a bit more about it as well as the chance to explore Groovy++ and Gradle, the next generation build tool using Groovy for it's DSL.
