My front deraileur started having problems getting onto the big ring. Since
the bent is fairy new, I'm assuming I got a bit of cable stretch. I
unscrewed the thimble on the shifter, but it unscrewed all the way off and
still wouldn't climb onto the big ring. So, I undid the screw on the
deraileur and now it goes off the side of the big ring completely. So, I
want to start over and get it right. I have grip-shifts. So, this is the
plan:

1. screw the thimble on the top almost all the way back on for future
stretching (if that's what it was).

2. loosen the cable jam screw on the deraileur and pull a bit of cable
through to take up some of the slack (stretch).

3. readjust the screw on the deraileur to its original postion (if I can
find it).

Since this is the first time I've attempted this, comments are welcome.....
as long as they are constructive.

Arne, take a look at Sheldon Brown's excellent articles on how to fix
bikes. Here's the url for his article on derailer adjustment.
