Lots of love -- Vlad Nedelcu Sex is like pizza. I refuse to have either until I have a healthy tossed salad
I personally don't feel the google groups solution is sufficiently
broken to need replacing. But we could *expand* onto twitter.
SA-UX things don't have to be limited to one channel. We already have
a facebook group, so I'm sure we can all tweet sa-ux things too. (And
make a group on Ning. And Linked-in. And I rather like the idea of
using posterous for collaboration...)
I like Google groups because:
- There's room for people to write more than 140 characters, which
enables them to discuss more complex and subtle issues
- I like getting the "electronic mail" in my "inbox" (such quaint,
archaic concepts, I know).
But what do I know?! Nuffink. What do other people think?
Or Vlad - just start with the tweeting and see how people react.

I can see this becoming quite a handy reference in the future. Even more so
for up-skilling new ux-ers in the fundamentals of HCD & the multitude of
methods available to perform effective HCD.
We at JH-01 have developed many of our own templates, methodologies &
deliverable docs that speak to HCD, but this toolkit gives us the
opportunity to see if we match up with best-practice & also validate our
methods against theirs and make improvements.
So in keeping with the spirit of 'sharing the love'...
Have any of you checked out the EightShapes Unify Project? (A new approach
to modular, scalable & fast UX deliverables)
EightShapes Unify is a collection of templates, libraries, and other assets
that enable user experience designers to create more consistent, effective
deliverables faster. The system utilizes the Adobe Creative Suite of
products; primarily, Adobe InDesign is the key authoring tool. The system is
often used by designers - and larger user experience teams - to rapidly
produce artifacts like design strategy, wireframes, style guides, specs, and
more.

Sex is like pizza. I refuse to have either until I have a healthy tossed

I tend to agree with Phil. But just a thought on going octopus with
the ux forum...what inspired the facebook group was a bunch of
negative feedback on the google-group too and in retrospect I'm
wondering just how much we (as a group) have really ended up 1. using
the facebook group and 2. using the particular features of facebook
which the google group lacks which was the reason for starting it. In
my opinion - not much in both cases.
However, that doesn't mean that other digital 'channels' like twitter
wouldn't work. So, as Phil said, try it.
My only two concerns are (and again - it doesn't mean don't try other
things)
1. The more 'homes' there are to the UX Forum, the more fragmentation
there is and it could make the group less focused or 'together'. I was
worried at one stage with the facebook presence, that we'd end up with
two different streams of conversation from two sources making life
more complex rather than simple.
2. It takes effort to keep these groups stimulated. I've been super
busy for ages and haven't been able to post as much as I'd like to (or
as much as the group has required - thank goodness for AJK). So if
you're going to start a twitter space, cool, but if it doesn't catch
on immediately you may need to put some effort in (which you may or
may not have) to keep it up until it does catch. These things are like
stubborn fires - gotta keep blowing till you're blue in the face and
then only does it catch alight.

I haven't looked at the SA UX Facebook group in a long time so it
hasn't really worked for me. Facebook is good for superficial social
interaction, but I don't think it works well for more in-depth
community engagement.
Email may be a bit old-fashioned but I never miss an SA UX forum post
so it works for me.
Twitter could potentially be an interesting complimentary channel for
the Google Group. I wouldn't want to move the whole group on to
Twitter though. For a start, this post (and the preceding 3) would
have been impossible with Twitter's 140 character limit.
I have TweetDeck open on my desktop all the time. I also regularly
check Twitterific on my iPhone when I'm away from my MacBook. Tweets
like, 'Interesting discussion on multi-channel opportunities for
@SA_UX group here: http://tr.im/sAr6' could work for me, although
there's nothing to stop individual members of the group doing this now
(in fact, I just did).
An official @SA_UX Twitter account might be a nice way to reach into a
different digital space - it might attract more people to the group
too. When push is properly developed for Twitter iPhone apps it would
be nice to have @SA_UX tweets popping up like text messages currently
do. There's a nice web app called CoTweet which allows multiple users
to tweet through one account (http://www.cotweet.com/) - that could be
an option? The basic free version allows 6 editors.
Great link Vlad and like your blog. Interesting stuff on there -
torrents inside images? Wow.
In my current position with our company I have been thrown into
Twitter so I use it quite a lot, but it is a brief communication tool;
sharing quick news or ideas. I don't see it working for lengthy
discussions as Phil pointed out.
The only thing FB is good for is keeping up with the social lives of
your friends and arranging meetings. :)
I am still curious about what people really want out of this "group".
If you don't know, how can you judge if a particular channel will be
beneficial to carry the message?
Things you can do on Twitter e.g. is have a 15-30 min Q&A session once
a month. Alternatively we can have a topic per week and that is the
only topic allowed to be discussed for that week. Thats keeps the
conversation focused and allows people to respond over a longer time
period.
Hey guys,i'm glad the twitter thing has made everyone think about what we
are doing here.
When i saw the eighty eight shapes unity project a while back it made me
think of the idea of open source in a different light, they went open
source UX, giving away some of your trade secrets does not matter cos cream
always rises to the top.
This way that we currently doing is fine, but we need to go from a closed
community to an open one.
There has been many good ideas and content talked about around here, how do
do i tap into it again? by going through my inbox?
Like all things they change with time and when you look it from a
hyperfocused level it changes again.
I run the blogs at the times amoung other things, so think it'll be good to
start one off there...
I think a blog is in order to democratise what's going on here. Worpress
MultiUser,I'll start it and it'll have 3 admins, people what want to post
will be added as authors.
Being linked to a news will give it credibilty as they do not have any UX
agenda and higher google page rank, we can still keep the email channel
open for private contact.
Everything will thus be in one place and searchable from the internet,
we'll have an archive and our ideas with not go onto a pile and collect
dust.
I know the times in it's current incarnation is not that greatest but it's
getting a major overhaul and should be going live quite soon.
If you wanna start a fire you don't want to contain it now do you?

I haven't said much before on this group and let me say this. I have found
some nuggets in what every one shares here.
So here's my thing. It seems clear that there's a need for more "flexibility
& organization" in our medium. I can create a community site for the SA UX
group. We can then build in functionality as we go along. For starters I see
bookmarking functionality, think delicious, as well as a co-authored blog as
Loki suggested? This could be the destination for UX by the community where
people will get great resources. Contributions as it were ca range from
small (say links) to bigish (e.g. tutorials). Oh and we'd be able to
syndicate what we tweet, perhaps with #saux? So there... a central place,
searchable, accessible informative and open.
By now you prooly realize, I'm into knowledge managent tools :-)
I'm thinking some of you are designers and the lot is experienced in UX
choreography :) so we could create some sort of masterpiece here... Or am I
getting ahead of myself here?
