In keeping with the recent theme of great provincial records, here is one for the Free State listers to chase…

Morne Pretorius reports 2 DARK-CAPPED YELLOW WARBLERS at Seekoeivlei Nature Reserve near Memel, GPS coordinates S27 37’29.8” & E 29 35’12.3”, this morning. The birds were seen moving between the sedges in the wetland and later one moved to the Willow tree standing next to this marshy area.

Based on current available information, it would seem that the only records for the province so far (during SABAP2) are from the Sterkfontein Dam area, so this latest record is again well out of range.
