This is the Southern African Rare Bird News Report issued at 20h15 on Thursday, 17 May 2012. Information has been gleaned from various websites, email groups as well as from individual observers who have passed on their sightings. This report cannot be taken as being totally comprehensive as it is based only on information made available at the time of writing. All bird sightings reported here are reported in good faith based on information as provided by the observers. Any inaccuracies are totally unintentional and the writer cannot be held liable for these. Once again, there will be no formal report on Monday as I will be out of town for a few days and will only be getting back on Tuesday evening. I’m not even sure that I will have cell phone reception where I am, but if I do hear of any news, I will certainly try and post it…
It has been an incredibly quiet few days with virtually nothing being reported. The Eastern Cape produced a CAPE VULTURE this morning about 30km from Pearston on the Graaff-Reinet side (co-ordinates for the sighting have been given as S 32 30 39,64 E 24 51 3,24) whilst, on Saturday, a NORTHERN PINTAIL (assumed to be an escapee from its behaviour) was reported on a dam at Harrismith in the Free State. In Namibia, both GULL-BILLED TERNS are also still present at Walvis Bay. | ||
