Hello all.
Yesterday I flew from Germany (Weeze) to Spain (Seville) and when I
opened my suitcase, I immediately noticed that it had been opened and
rifled through. Further, something had been stolen - a bottle of
cologne that was inside my shaving kit.
Ii have written a strongly worded letter, and from reading the
ryanaircampaign website, don't expect anything in the way of a reply
or compensation. I have already started proceedings with my insurance
company for the replacement of the stolen items.
I am posting this here to gain further visibility of the issue, and
would urge all travelers to take out travelers insurance, which covers
this and a lot more.
I have published my letter on my blog at:

Ryanair likes to make out they look after your luggage from beginning
to end, taking the credit for their low lost luggage record (when in
fact it's because they fly to small airports where the baggage handler
doesn't have to do much). In your case, they've clearly shot
themselves in the foot by making you think i was Ryanair that stole
your baggage. In reality, it was the airport-employed baggage handlers
(probably Germany, where they would have had the time to look through
your stuff) and not Ryanair.

Yeah, I know that Ryanair doesn’t actually employ the baggage
handlers, but at Weeze there are hardly any other airlines. And my
ticket is with Ryanair, not the baggage handlers, so the duty of care
rests with Ryanair.
