Hi Sriram,

I know you have been asking about the Supernova Control in particular,
can't help you with that. But I can highly recommend the Supernova
Cushion 6. Am on my second pair, they are super comfortable, have a
perfect fit and
have never given me any problems at all during trail or road running.

Hope this helps!

Hi!

I too have the Supernova Cushion 6. Is perfect for road running.
Nice fit and good cushioning for the heel.

I am a big fan of Supernova cushion - just breaking
into my 6th pair this week in the last 5 years!! As
has been said several times before on this forum of
course no shoe will fit all runners!. In between .I
did try a pair of Asic Gel Kayona 13 but it just did
not work for me.In fact if anyone is interested in
trying it out on a few runs please mail me at
bh...@yahoo.com.

I am sure there are several runners who use Supernova
cushion - if I remember right this includes either
Nagaraj or Deepak?

thanks sabine, bhasker, alain and sathwick, but im confused as to which shoes am supposed to go for. actually i previously had a pair of adistar control, but it just didn't work and i ended up with a knee problem, then i went back to my old shoe which is a basic reebok all worn out,but it was welcome change..?SO my question is should i buy another control shoes like supenova control, just because my foot scan says so OR should i just go for a good cushion shoe like supernova cushion, which i presume will work better for me..
At this stage i might be sounding confused, but what the hell,i just wana have a good run!!!
thanks
Sriram

Sriram,

you might want to find out just what is causing you knee pain..it may not be from your shoe at all.

Sriram,

You may want to talk to Doc (Rajat) about your knee problem and the
right kind of shoes for you. Don't go just by anyone's word, have your
feed analyzed first.

Cheers!

One word of caution if you are going by the Adidas machine and recommend
ations (Sabina Plaza).

I went there recently to help Nischal choose a shoe. Just to calibrate their machine I asked them to analyze my gait. They anlyzed me and said I needed control shoes. I know for sure I don't, I am a normal pronator and just need stability shoes. I have been using ASICS 2120 (and their predecessors) for many years with no problems.

These guys seem to think that if a little control is good then more control is better. WRONG!
What they inferred from my gain was that I pronate. Sure, most average people do. Normal stability shoes will provide adequate support. However control shoes have a rigid piece in the middle of the shoe which is stiff and resists twisting of the shoe from outside to inside. So for normal people who may need this the shoe will actually hurt and you can develop severe knee pains wearing control shoes when you don't one.

I would recommend that you don't go exclusively with what the Adidas people in Sabina people say. Make your own judgement, do the wet foot test and look at shoes that have worked for you in the past and chose shoes from that same category (Stability, Control, and Cushion).

Good advice Madhu. But i guess you meant Safina Plaza... maybe got too influenced with the flurry of wonderful mails Sabine is sending :-) (due apologies Sabine.. for not being able to give you company for the last couple of runs... not sure about this weekend too.. the folks at office are heavily hinting at work spilling over to weekend :-(

I am a novice in the field of selecting shoes.. i would surely be catching up with the Doc to have a expert advice (Rajat, as a bait i am offering company for a 21km run on the NICE Road... whenever you are back in Bangalore next time... this time i was nursing a sore knee, so could not afford to bother you).. but otherwise i have no clue what i should go for... have been hearing a lot about this Supernove Cushion 6 thing.. have been checking it on net... could anyone let me know how much does a pair cost? planning to go and check out something soon....
are anything in Reebok worth it for running "half" distances (i mean half-marathon)...

Hello Sriram : you should be glad that you asked this question before buying your shoes:)

As Madhu cautions in his post - don't rely completely on the analysis done by Addidas guys. They want to be wrong on the right side -- but I guess they end up doing otherwise.

I have been suffering from hamstring/gluteus problem for the past 2.5 months and it's miserable. I visited Dr Rajat's ultra-modern (?) facility last week and got my video gait analysis done. Per Doc's claims the equipment is not ready yet but based on what we could see in the video, I was over (much too over) pronating. I got the orthotic correction done in my shoes (some Rs 2500 in-soles) and man, there is a sea of difference in my pain in the butt... I could have never imagined that a little over-pronation can cause so many problems and some in-sole can prevent your feet from turning over inside too much!

Okay coming back -- So as I said I got the orthotic correction done in my shoes but my shoes themselve are 'control' shoes (Addistar Control). These control shoes are obviously not specifically designed for your feet -- they have some correction for an average guy/girl who over-pronates. What Rajat's team (Viswanath to be precise) can do is get the correction specifically fitted for you. For the orthotic in-soles to work properly, you may want to look at 'cushion' or nuetral shoes and not control shoes.

So my advise to you:
Get the video gait analysis done
Take doc and Vishwanathan's opinion on whether you need correction to be fitted
If needs to be fitted, then what kind of shoes will it slap on/in
And then buy the shoes and orthotics (if required)

Hope this helps

Great words again. This group simply rocks!!
So, Nitin, where in Bangalore can i get this done. I vaguely remember that our Doc sits in Manipal Hospital. And how much is this going to cost me?

Yeah even I would like to go for the test, as after longer runs I have
a pain in the ankles the next day, so video gait analysis would be a
good idea!

Cheers

Sriram,

A tip that i got from a fellow runner - whatever shoe you finally decide to get, get one half size bigger - this gives your toes some breathing space - I donot know if this works but I have always bought running shoes this way and it helps me - especially when you are running lots of downhill.

All the best with your shopping!

sriram,
another thing is to not get stuck on a brand unless you have been used
to it for sometime.
i use both new balance (for longer runs) and asics (for shorter runs)
and both work for me.

make sure you take your running socks (i use cotton socks from FILA)
along when you buy running shoes. you won't believe how much of a
difference the clearance b/w your the back of your foot and the shoe
makes. the fit matters a lot.

also, like others have suggested, do your own "foot contour using
water" test at home before the shoe salesmen/women give you gyaan. see
www.roadrunnersports.com and check out their shoe selector feature.

I found this presentation on "Choosing Proper Footwear" rather useful
http://scottsevinsky.tripod.com/pt/presentations/inservice_footwear.pdf
It has more on biomechanics than anyone without a medical degree ever
needs to know!
Also look at this page: http://www.aapsm.org/runshoe.html

Can anyone recommends a store in Bangalore that has a good inventory
of running shoes in multiple widths and lengths in half-size
increments?

Try Adidas Super Nova (around 5 K)
Nike Shox (around 7 K)
All company stores, in Commercials, Forum and Brigade, have these
collections.

Get the shoes from US. It's half the price (around 55-80 USD)

The same shoes in Singapore, Malaysia and China are also cheaper.

Make sure shoe is light yet with thick sole if you are not aiming for
sub 2:30 in 42K.

Check if the shoe has enough net to suck the heat that your feat
generates.

Please ask me any question. I guess that I can handle most of your of
running questions.

Are you sure? I've found that local stores have shoes only in whole
size increments (i.e do they have a 9.5?) and each model is only
available in a single width. For that matter the Reebok India shopping
site points to indiatimes, which reflects the same (un)availability
