As most of you know, I have signed up for the 52K distance at the
Bangalore Ultra in December. I am now facing a problem with my
increasingly longer runs and would welcome some suggestions from you.
I am currently increasing the distance of my long runs by 10% every 2
weeks. My last long run was this Sunday, covering a distance of 33K.
My next long run would be 36K (21.10.).
I had initially scheduled my long runs to coincide with our RFL runs
so that I would have some company along the way and the benefit of the
water stations. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be too many takers
for these "really" long distances and those that do run them finish
much much earlier than me. At the last two runs (Whitefield & ONV),
the poor volunteers had to wait for me to finish. Obviously, things
are only going to get worse as the distances keep getting longer.
Yes, I am a slow runner (some of you might not even call it running!)
and yes, I do follow the Galloway method of 9/1 (9 min run/1 min
walk).
Typically, I don't mind running on my own but on these long runs it
really does help to have company, someone to "push" you along. Would
any of you out there be willing to keep me company during these long
runs leading up to the Kavery Marathon/Ultra, despite my slow pace?
My distances/dates are as follows:
14.10.07: 16-20K
21.10.07: 36K
28.10.07: 16-20K
04.11.07: 39K
11.11.07: 16-20K
18.11.07: 42K (Kavery Marathon)
Cheers!

Am on a similar schedule, so are Madhu and Athreya. We run together on
Saturdays, am attempting a 36K this Saturday as well. Come join us. I must
tell you it is highly motivating to see Madhu's flourescent T-shirt flapping
a km ahead of you, while you are huffing and puffing away your last few
breaths.
Call me : 9845842725, we will think of a nice trail to run on.

My name is Paras Gudka, very new to serious running. I am 24 and have no
prior experience running marathons. The last time I ran seriously was in
10th grade at the school sports day. A friend of mine who lives in
Chennai and has been running marathons for quite a while now (he even
participated in one in Rwanda!), inspired me to take up running. I think
it was his collection of bibs and newspaper clippings that did the
trick. So when he told me about the Bangalore ultra, I thought I'd start
running. Of course, at that time I didn't know it was an ultra and that
there's a difference between normal marathons and ultras. In any case, I
still want to run the ultra and am aiming for 26 kilometres.
Since the last week I have been working out regularly at the gym with a
lot of emphasis on cardio training. In three days, I have gone from
running for 5 minutes on the treadmill to doing a little under 2
kilometres. By Saturday, I hope to increase that to a little under 3
kilometres. My plan is to work-out at the gym from Monday to Saturday
and to do outdoor running on Sundays. I live in Basaveshwaranagar and am
looking for experienced runners this part of town to train with.
Your thoughts, suggestions and company are most welcome!
